It's National Volunteer Week! As I reflect upon the value and impact of our passionate volunteer community and their unwavering dedication to our mission, I am humbled with gratitude and appreciation. So many of our volunteers are warriors; they live with chronic pain and the many challenges of arthritis, and still show up to move our cause forward, each day, closer to a cure. Their value is immeasurable, and I hope they know how much I admire them, and work hard for them. They lead by example and make each one of us better as a result. It's Walk to Cure Arthritis season again! What does that really mean? To me, it is not just a job, it is personal. The impact that is made, that I contribute to through my team, has a resounding effect upon our arthritis community.Here are some of our most recent accomplishments:* We launched our first-ever Foundation-directed Post-Traumatic Osteoarthritis Clinical Trial: The Post-Injury Knee Arthritis Severity Outcomes (PIKASO).* We held our first in-person Advocacy Summit in 4 years with legislators, resulting in 20 new co-sponsors to the Safe Step Act and HELP Copays Act.* We provided three (3) fellowships to rheumatologists in 2023, and expanded our program to fund 25 institutions since 20218.* We launched our Ideal Model of Care Page, a major initiative to create a better quality of life for all people living with arthritis.Being part of our community to create change for arthritis patients is easy, especially during Walk season. As a proud State University of New York Cortland alum and #alumniboard member, I can attest to the value of lifelong engagement with your #almamater; you can have some of your most impactful experiences, network, grow personally and professionally, contribute to the future, and make lifelong friends from multiple generations and more. For me this has been a life-changing role and a gift that keeps on giving.
